What A Story!

from Travis

Bible scholar Philip Ryken introduces his commentary on Exodus with these words:

“Exodus is an epic tale of fire, sand, wind, and water...

Almost every scene is a masterpiece. The baby in the basket, the burning bush, the river of blood and the other plagues, the angel of death, the crossing of the Red Sea, the manna in the wilderness, the water from the rock, the thunder and lightning on the mountain, the Ten Commandments, the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, the golden calf, the glory in the tabernacle.

Once heard, the story is never forgotten.

Over the last 6 Sundays we have explored the back half of an incredible part of the Bible and a deeply impactful part of the story of the people of God. As we have repeated along the way, in many ways their story is our story. It is not hard to read ourselves into the narrative, delighting in the same God who rescues, protects, provides, reveals His glory and covenants with His people today. It is easy to resonate with their dependency on God, their faith and failings in following him, their hunger for the promises of God and the Presence of God, and for structuring their lives around worshipping the God who saved them.

After this Sunday our preaching series will move on... but our hope and prayer is that 'once heard, the story is never forgotten'. From covenant living, to covenant making, breaking and renewing, from covenant worship to the glory of the Lord filling the Tabernacle... we sure have covered some ground together! And if you are anything like me, there have been moments of deep conviction and inspiration that will fuel ongoing pursuit of Jesus far beyond the six short weeks we have spent in the back half of Exodus.

In fact, we'd love to hear from you! What particularly impacted you from the story of Exodus? What life application do you seek to put into practice beyond the end of our Exodus series? Let us know below.

Ministry Highlight: Baptisms!!

Last Sunday night we were thrilled to witness eight people publicly declare their faith in and allegiance to Jesus through Baptism. What an encouraging night testifying to the ways that God is clearly at work in people's lives here.

Below is a link to read through each of their testimonies, as well as some photos from the night. Please join us in celebrating with each of them and praying for God's empowering as they seek to live each day for Jesus!

Mission Update: Muana & Villy

The monsoon season approaches. Farmers begin preparing for planting. Traditionally in Thailand, this has included rituals in which people sought the blessing of a good harvest from the spirits. The northern Thai Christians also take time to acknowledge God to be the true source of all blessings, including a good harvest. In a simple, symbolic act of faith, they gather together, scatter seeds onto a plate of soil, and gently water them as intercessory prayers rise to Heaven. (Left image below)

Villy recently taught some women of the Sanpatong Congregation how to make soap.  The men helped by finding the necessary raw materials, like aloe vera and lime. (Right image above)

NVBC has been a long-term supporter of Muana & Villy who have been working with the Northern Thai people (look for Ban Sra & San Pa Tong on your map) since 2001.  Learn more about this work here.  Or talk to Danielle Lamrock.  And look for their prayer points in The Harvest.

This Sunday

This Sunday Johnny is preaching an 'Exodus Overtime' message from Exodus 20:1-6, looking at the exclusive claims of God at both services.
