More Than History

Throughout the book of Acts we read of the beautiful and impactful movement of the Holy Spirit in the life of the early church.

The life and example of these first believers to receive the Holy Spirit continues to be an inspiring (sometimes challenging!) one for us today. Across this term we will celebrate their courage, admire their faith, be thankful for their faithfulness and praise God for their impact. Yet this is more than a history lesson for us at NVBC in 2026!

For we are ultimately part of the same movement: we too are called to be Jesus' witnesses, joining with God's Kingdom agenda to bring blessing to the ends of the earth, being on mission together as God's people living and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus. What a vision for our lives!!

Over our church in 2026 we have set the theme of 'movement': we don't want to be building a museum or a monument, we want to be part of a movement!!

As we read through and preach through Acts this term, our prayer is that will we together be inspired and mobilised by the example of these early disciples. From the time of Acts the Gospel movement baton has continued to be passed from generation to generation... and it's our turn now.

New Song: Dwelling Place

This Sunday, we’re introducing a new song! Dwelling Place, by Mitch Wong and Mia Fields, carries a simple but powerful prayer: “Make me a dwelling place… a place for You to rest, a place for You to speak, for You to have Your way.”

Throughout Scripture, we see God’s desire not just to be near His people, but to dwell within them. We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that we are temples of the Holy Spirit, and in John 14:23 that God makes His home with those who love Him. This song gives voice to that truth—not as an idea, but as a daily surrender.

“Dwelling Place” invites us beyond singing into transformation. It echoes the cry of Psalm 24:3–4, asking for clean hands and a pure heart, and reflects the posture of Romans 12:1—offering our lives as living sacrifices. It’s a reminder that worship is more than a moment; it’s a life set apart, available, and yielded to God.

As we prepare for Sunday, have a listen ahead of time to become familiar with the melody and take a moment to reflect: Where is God inviting you to make more room for Him? What might it look like to become a place where His presence feels at home?
