A Place at the Table
from Travis
One of the powerful images in the Christian life is the image of a table. Around a table we share meals and stories; we listen, we laugh, and we remember that we have a place of belonging with one another. I can recall many powerful memories of celebrations, shared sorrows, deep encouragements and growing connection that have taken place around a table with friends. Even just today I shared a table with some pastor friends, and found the time of connection and organic conversations around the table the most valuable part of our half-day together.
It shouldn't surprise us then, that throughout the Gospels, Jesus was often found at a table— eating with friends, welcoming strangers, and making space for those who might otherwise have been left out. A table speaks to connection, inclusion, belonging and care.
As followers of Jesus, we desire to pattern our life off his - holding space at the table for others. And as we continue to grow as a church, we want to reflect that same spirit: a place where everyone has a seat, where every person is welcomed, and where no one feels like they are on the outside looking in. A table reminds us that faith is not meant to be lived alone. It grows stronger when we share it—through conversation, hospitality, and simple moments spent together.
This Sunday, we invite you to what we have named "family lunch" after the AM Service and "family dinner" after the PM Service. Whether it is sitting at a literal table or connecting in the Courtyard we would love for you to stay, share a meal, and enjoy the gift of community together. There is a place at the table for you!
