John 18-21

This Bible Study is a bit different to usual. This week, we will be reading four chapters of John's Gospel in full - over 100 verses in total - pausing occasionally for discussion and reflection along the way. If your group doesn't have lots of keen readers willing to read aloud for your group, feel free to use an audio bible to read for you - bible.com or the bible app have good ones.

Or you could even watch along on video, starting here:

(Personally, I'd recommend a using a more free translation, such as NLT or The Message, which might make the readings easier to listen to for longer, if you think that would be helpful!)

1. Read John 18:1-11

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, the mighty and powerful 'I AM' who still willingly went with the soldiers and temple guards?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who told Peter to put away his sword?

2. Read John 18:12-27

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus under pressure, when you want to deny him like Peter did?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who spoke the truth boldly when questioned?

3. Read John 18:28-19:16

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, whose Kingdom of not of this world?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who stands for truth in a world without truth?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, the Son of God?

4. Read John 19:17-37

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, the crucified King?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who cared for his mother as he died on the cross?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who fulfilled all the scriptures about him?

5. Read John 19:38-20:18

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, the Risen One?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who told Mary to tell the brothers the good news?

6. Read John 20:19-21:25

What stood out to you here?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, the one who speaks 'peace'?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, when we doubt?

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus, who restored and forgave Peter?

  • What from these readings and discussion will you take with you into the Easter weekend?

  • How do you want to grow as a Jesus follower this week?

Spend some time in prayer together, that we can all continue to grow in our understanding of what it means to follow Jesus this Easter.
