John 13:18-38
What are your thoughts/reflections from last Sunday's sermon and bible study on 'A Movement of Service'?
How have you 'washed feet' this week? Share any experiences you've had of being servant-hearted towards others, and pray a short prayer of praise to give God the glory for these things.
Read John 13:10-11, 18-30
How do you think Jesus felt about Judas betraying him?
How do you think the disciples felt when he warned them about it?
What does the fact that Judas' betrayal was prophesied show us about the following things:
God's sovereignty
Satan's power
Our response to things going wrong in our own lives
Our response to people betraying us (or even disappointing us)
Read John 13:31-35
What is the link between these three statements (The Glory of Jesus in v31-32; the uniqueness of Jesus in v33; the command of Jesus to love in v34-35)?
How would these three statements have sounded to the early church when they thought back on them after Jesus's death, resurrection and assension?
How does Jesus's movement hang on the content of these statements?
Read John 13:36-38
How do you think Jesus felt about Peter denying him?
How does this betrayal compare to what Judas did?
Is there anything here that we can add to what we learned back in verses 18-30?
We will come back to Peter's denial as we continue through John, culminating in chapter 21...there's much more to come!
How will you act on the movement of Jesus this week?
How will you rely on God?
How will you respond to set-backs?
How will you glorify Jesus?
How will you love one another as a witness to the watching world?
Spend some time dedicating yourselves to these things, and be ready to bring your testimonies next week!
