Facilities Update
NVBC Facilities Update April 1, 2012
So far this year our building program has been a season of pressure, pain and excitement … all at once!
The Pressure & Pain
As we've mentioned already, our previous architects designed a building so far over budget it could have sent us broke. Compounded with an on-going billing dispute, it was decided that new architects should be appointed.
The Facilities Team also agreed the project was facing new challenges:
- Construction decisions were being made without our most qualified people in the room. People with construction experience. While a sub- committee could have been appointed, the more committees involved a decision, the longer it takes to make one.
- Time was our second critical issue. Decisions were being bogged down by the time demands on our team. Internal deadlines weren't being met.
After much discussion, it was the consensus of the Facilities Team to change the makeup of that team, drawing on construction experience inside our NVBC family. These agreed-to changes also saw Mike Burdon and Maurice Wrightson no longer serving in the area of Facilities and the role of Facilities Director concluding.
Maurice has been assisting us in finalising the relationship with our previous architects. Mike continues to serve as our Chair of Elders.
Sadly, Maurice has felt pain from the decision to change the team structure, and we continue to miss his fellowship.
We haven't thanked Maurice the way we normally would for his immense contribution to NVBC, at his request. We're really saddened by this but honor his decision. We will do something more when it’s OK by Maurice.
The Excitement
Already this year our Facilities Construction Committee has undertaken Hydraulics, Bushfire and Traffic reports in preparation for DA.
Aibee architects have presented a number of preliminary drawings of our new building. All well within our budget! Work continues this week with a meeting at their Sydney offices.
We are now looking to a pre-DA meeting with Gosford City Council during April.
For any construction questions, catch up with any of our Facilities Construction Committee.
Of course for any spiritual, relational or administrative questions, our Elders are always available.
